Stem-to-Strand is a green enterprise and employment programme developed by Farmdrop Nigeria. We transform banana and plantain pseudostem into natural fibre and build practical skills, production and enterprise opportunities around it, with plant-based braiding hair as our initial commercial application.

The Training Institute
Banana Silk Institute
From practical fibre skills to enterprise development.
The Banana Silk Institute is the specialist training and enterprise development arm supporting Stem-to-Strand programmes.
The Institute provides structured practical training in banana and plantain pseudostem processing, natural fibre extraction, fibre preparation, product development, entrepreneurship and market readiness.
Through the Institute, participants follow a structured learning pathway combining practical production skills with the commercial knowledge required to turn those skills into income and sustainable enterprise.
Practical Training
Hands-on instruction in pseudostem preparation, fibre extraction, cleaning, processing and product development.
Enterprise Training
Costing, pricing, branding, packaging, sales and practical business development.
Certification
Participants completing approved programmes receive Banana Silk Institute certification based on attendance, practical assessment and programme requirements.
Post-Training Development
Follow-up support, market testing and 30, 60 and 90-day monitoring designed to help participants move from training towards economic activity.
